Death: The Inevitable Reality

I just returned from a department meeting with Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. From September 1, 2006 to August 1, 2007, 50 of our alumni died. Nothing major. This seems about average. Nevertheless, that's 50 doctors from our school alone that stepped into eternity. Let that sink in. If there are any men on earth that could stay death's hand, surely a doctor could. He knows the necessary ingredients to keep the human body functioning. These are the men that write textbooks on this stuff. Hundreds of times through their careers they (under God's provision) stayed the hand of death for other people. Nevertheless, their patients sooner or later died. It was inevitable. And, now, their doctors have taken their place beside them in the grave. Now, all of their knowledge means nothing compared to whether or not they submitted to the lordship of Christ.

You are going to die. You are going to die soon. Don't waste your life. This is a wake-up call for Christians also. There is no time to spare. Eternity is closer than when we first believe. Let's lay aside the encumbrances and run the race set before us.
